A line no marker in a shop will make

A mop marker is built, not bought — a bottle, a felt nib, mixed ink — and it puts down a heavy line a shop pen won't, because it wasn't built to hold steady.

Why does a mop exist when marker pens already do the job?

Because a marker pen is built to behave, and a mop is built to hold a lot of ink and let it go whenever it feels like it.

A mop starts as a squat bottle — plastic, easy to carry, cheap to replace — with a thick felt nib forced into the neck and a cap that's usually a little loose from being taken on and off. What fills it is whatever ink got mixed to go in, thinner and heavier than anything sold for a pen, and that's the whole reason to build one: no shop marker holds that volume or lets it out that fast.

What does that ink do differently from a marker's?

It runs.

A marker's ink is metered by a small felt tip designed not to flood. A mop's fat nib puts down far more than the surface can absorb the instant it touches, so the stroke stays wet and heavy long after the hand has moved on — which is why gravity gets a say before the ink finishes drying. On paper that might be a smudge to avoid; on brick or a shutter it's simply how this ink behaves.

Why leave the drips in rather than wipe them off?

Because the drip is what proves the ink was loaded, not applied carefully.

Wiping a mop line clean would make it look like a marker line, and the whole reason to reach for the bottle over the pen is the different result. The heaviest pooling sits wherever the nib first touched — the stroke has a beginning you can read — and the three drips below it are gravity finishing a sentence the hand started.

Can I copy somebody's mop line?

No — the line is as much theirs as a tag drawn with a can.

A person's ink, their nib, the angle they hold the bottle at: nobody can license a photograph of a specific line and call it yours to reprint. How is a mop line different from one made with a can?

Fat and skinny caps still meter their line through a fixed nozzle, however wide it's set. A mop has no nozzle at all — the felt nib is soft, it flexes under pressure, and the ink comes out under gravity and hand pressure rather than propellant. A spray line holds roughly the width it was designed for along its whole length; a mop line changes width as the hand slows down, speeds up, or presses harder into a corner. Two marks made in the same colour, on the same wall, still tell you which tool made which one.

Doesn't a line this uneven look like a mistake?

It looks that way next to a ruler.

Next to drips laid down on purpose with a can, it reads as exactly what it is — a tool that wasn't built to draw a straight line, used by someone who wasn't asking it to. The unevenness is the ink behaving the way it behaves, not a hand that slipped.

Does something this wet print well?

Better than it looks like it should.

A loaded stroke and a controlled drip are still flat colour with a hard edge once printed — the wetness is a fact about how the ink was applied, not about the artwork's structure. What matters on cloth is the same as anywhere else: one ink, a strong silhouette, nothing so fine it disappears below the weave. Oxblood on bone or cream holds the pooled, dark start of the stroke clearly.
