A sweep is a search pattern, not a gesture
Five overlapping torch beams from one fixed point, brightening as they go — a sweep is how ground gets checked with light instead of walked in full.

The same torch beam appears five times, each a long narrow wedge fanning out from one point at the bottom left. The first four are faint, almost gone; the last is bright. Where they meet, near the origin, they overlap.
That's not one beam caught moving. It's a route, drawn as five stops along it.
Why draw the same beam five times instead of once?
Because a single beam only shows where the torch is pointing right now, and the whole point of a sweep is where it's already been.
Five positions, fading from faint to bright, record a sequence rather than an instant — the eye reads them in order, oldest to newest, and understands a patrol without needing a caption to explain it. One bright wedge alone would just be a torch switched on. Five is a person working a space in sections, standing in one spot and covering it piece by piece. The count itself matters less than the fade; even three or seven positions would still read as a sequence, as long as the brightness steps clearly from one to the next.
Why sweep from a fixed point rather than moving through the space?
Because covering ground with light from one standpoint does the job walking every inch of it would otherwise have to do.
A beam fanning out from a fixed origin covers a wide arc without the person holding it needing to cross it, which matters most exactly where crossing isn't practical — at height, across water, along a fence line too long to pace out every hour. The sweep substitutes for the walk, and that's the entire reason it exists as a technique rather than as a habit. It also means one standpoint can cover several approaches at once, rather than one person committing to a single path through the dark and missing whatever's either side of it.
Why does each pass overlap the one before it, instead of sitting next to it cleanly?
Because a sweep with a gap between passes leaves a stretch of dark nobody's actually checked.
An evenly spaced, non-overlapping sweep looks tidier on paper, but it leaves the outer edge of each beam unlit by the next one — exactly where something moving would slip through, timed to the gap between passes rather than caught by either one. A deliberate overlap near the base means every part of the field gets covered by two passes, not one, close to the difference a lifeboat crew works to when they search open water in overlapping legs rather than one straight run across it.
Whose beam is this?
Nobody's specific patrol — there's no badge, no company name, no uniform anywhere in the frame, just the beam and the field it's crossing.
A real security firm's own insignia, or a specific site's markings, belong to that company, and licensing them is part of the job if a particular employer or site is genuinely the point. A beam with no name attached belongs to the technique, which is older than any one firm using it.
Does the same sweep pattern apply beyond a security round?
Yes — anywhere ground gets checked on a schedule from a fixed standpoint rather than walked in full each time.
A weather station's own observations, logged at set intervals through the night rather than watched continuously, run on the same idea: nobody can watch everything all the time, so it's checked in a pattern regular enough that nothing goes unwatched for long. A shipping forecast works the same way at sea scale — the coast divided into named areas covered in turn rather than as one unbroken pass.
Isn't a few glowing wedges too abstract to read as a person doing a job?
The wedges read as motion and sequence before anyone identifies the job behind them, which is enough to carry the design.
Fading repetition from one point is a shape people recognise from headlights sweeping a wet road, or a lighthouse's own beam, before they've placed it as a security round specifically. The actual job is what a wearer supplies by knowing what the shirt means to them; the print only has to carry the pattern.
Does it print well?
Yes — a single luminous ink on a near-black ground gets close to the real experience of a torch beam in the dark, which most prints don't get to attempt this literally.
Pale cyan glows in low light and reads as flat cyan in daylight, so the design works in both states rather than depending on darkness to make sense of it. The wedges work best as clean fills rather than soft gradients — a gradient glow effect prints as a blur, where a hard-edged wedge, faint or bright, stays a readable shape at any distance. The fade between beams is best carried by five distinct flat tones rather than one continuous gradient, for the same reason.
