The word SATURDAY, narrowing toward the edge
A poster photographed from one side rather than squared up, its type shrinking at exactly the rate its own edges do, until just one word at the near corner is still legible.

One word, SATURDAY, sits at the left in red — tall, upright, easy to read. Moving right, every letter gets a little shorter and a little tighter, until the line gives out into a sliver nobody could read back. Four black rays fan out beneath it, converging on the same point the letters are converging on.
A flat rectangle doesn't do this to itself. Something photographed it from one side, and the angle is written into every letter on it.
Why is this word shrinking across the print?
Because the poster was photographed from one side rather than squared up to the camera, and anything printed flat on that poster has to shrink the same way its edges do.
A rectangle photographed at an angle stops reading as a rectangle — the far side sits further from the lens and reads smaller, which is exactly what happens to every letter riding on that surface. The type isn't shrinking on its own account; it is shrinking because the thing it's printed on is getting further away as your eye moves right. A camera does the same thing to a screen shot instead of captured — the surface's own geometry gets stamped onto everything sitting on it.
Why is the near edge the tall one and not the far edge?
Because whatever sits closer to a lens reads larger, and the left edge here is simply closer than the right.
That's the plainest depth cue there is, older than any camera — near things look bigger, far things look smaller. A poster has no depth of its own; it's flat against a wall. The plain reason one end of it can look taller than the other is that the two ends sit different distances from whoever's holding the phone, which happens when the phone isn't lined up square to the wall.
Why didn't whoever took this just stand square to the poster?
Because squaring up costs a few steps and a beat to check the frame, and this wasn't meant to be a clean reproduction.
A photograph like this is a note to self — a flyer glimpsed on the way past, kept for the date on it rather than for how it looks. Nobody lines up a tripod for that. The angle is whatever angle the person happened to be standing at when they lifted the phone, and getting the information mattered more than getting the geometry right.
Why does only the word SATURDAY survive?
Because it sits nearest the camera, at the one point along the poster where the shrinking has done the least damage yet.
Whatever else was printed on this poster — a time, a place, a second day — sat further along the same wall and is already past reading by the time the angle gets to it. The poster almost certainly promised more than a day. What's left is the one word close enough to survive the distance it had to travel across the frame.
Who owns a photograph of an invented poster?
A poster somebody actually printed and hung would belong to them; this one was never printed by anybody real.
The word, the rays, the wall — none of it copies an existing notice or event. If a real poster from a real place is the point of what somebody wants made, that photograph belongs to whoever took it or commissioned it, and it can be licensed like any other photograph. If the point is the angle rather than any specific poster, there's no photograph to clear, because there wasn't one.
Is this the same distortion as a page scanned crooked, or an image stretched to fill a space?
No — this one changes at a different rate depending on distance, and those two don't.
A page scanned a few degrees off square rotates as one rigid sheet — every letter on it turns by the same angle, nothing shrinks. An image stretched to fill a space it didn't fit changes uniformly across the whole frame, near and far treated identically. Here, the far side of the poster is punished more than the near side, because a camera photographing a flat surface at an angle sees genuine depth, and rotation and uniform stretching never do.
Does it print well?
Yes — the shrink is drawn as clean converging lines, which a weave holds fine.
Flat red type and flat black rays, both hard-edged, both straight lines even where they're converging, which is the easy case for fabric. The one place needing care is the trailing sliver at the right, where the letters are already smallest in the source photograph — reproduced any finer than the weave's own floor, that sliver disappears rather than reading as illegible, and the point is that it's still there to be squinted at. Taupe, stone and warm grey grounds all suit the red and black. Two inks.
